Named after a charming town in England's Lake District, Ambleside Gardens opened in 1965 in Hillsborough, New Jersey on Route 206-then a quiet road connecting Somerville and Princeton with but three traffic lights in between! As the area has grown, so has our reputation as a unique garden center. We offer one of the most extensive selections of plant material in New Jersey with many unusual and hard to find varieties.

Ambleside's collection of Japanese Maples is well known and draws customers from all over the tri-state area.

The second generation owners stock many varieties of Japanese maples and other unique Oriental shrubs and trees, and the arangement of the trees and shrubs make the grounds feel like you are in a Japanese Temple Garden. Worth of visit be sure to stop view the water garden from the porch!

I've been a customer here since I can remember. They're great for little rare plants and very reasonably-priced vegetable plants at the beginning of the season. Also they have a lot of little statuettes for sale, which is pretty cool.

Ambleside has been a part of my Princeton garden For over 20years. David's dad helped me put in A "secret garden in the far corner". Now David is Adding some lovely specimen trees. Ambleside is a very special garden resource! My Garden is a little bit of heaven thanks to them!

Every single season, I go and buy a few plants, or trees. The quality is excellent and the service and knowledge of the salespeople are good too. Everybody is very helpful they seem to enjoy when you get a sale price and get to save money!
