O'Brien Nurserymen was established in 1984 as O'Brien Landscaping., a design-install landscape firm. In our infancy, we specialized in pruning and delivering our clients with unusual specimen plant selections as well as a individual touch. As the years passed, we found ourselves mostly working within the shade, so a natural evolution for us was into hosta gardening.

John O'Brien has the most complete hosta selection in Connecticut, maybe in all of New England! I am not kidding. His display gardens are vast and the hosta varieties in each area are perfectly set between mature 30ft. plus trees. Perennials varieties I have never laid eyes on before are growing and flourishing everywhere you look. This place should be on every plant lovers bucket list.

My oh my! Only open on the weekend but this is a great place to purchase hostas of every variety imaginable. PLUS he carries other plants that are not the run of the mill. Go! Visit! Buy a plant or 5.

OMG.I have been in landscaping since I was 14 years old at the old Silas Deane Nursey in Rocky Hill. I have NEVER seen a place like this. John "OB-Wan" O'Brien is a genius AND a great guy.knowledgeable about EVERYTHING he grows and wonderfully friendly to boot! Check this place out as this should be awarded 6 stars but the rating only goes to 5.see you soon, John!

An excellent assortment of plants, trees, shrubs of all kinds! Also a garden area you can walk thru and see many things planted- see how they look in the ground. Very knowledgeable staff!

This is an outstanding nursery. John is a walking encyclopedia. They have a fantastic variety of healthy plants. The ones we got in May were so great we went back for more! Our tree has become a beautiful centerpiece to our side garden. Check this place out!

I love O'Briens. I try to make a trip at least once a season. Just to walk and view the gardens is a treat, but even better are the incredible variety of hostas as well as other plants for sale. I always find special ones to add to my garden collection.
