Olive's was started in 1942 by my Grandfather, Walter Eric Olive. That was 80 years ago! We've accumulated some experience over the years and hope to share it with you through this website. Some people are considered experts when they've been doing the same thing for over forty years, so if you want to ask me lawn and garden, pond, or any question, just email me (Tommy Olive) at [email protected] and I'll get back with my best answer. Or better yet, come see me and our excellent staff!. When you're sick, you want an experienced doctor.
Services
This is such a huge subject! You should start with an honest assessment of your lifestyle. Your landscape should only be as big or complicated as you will enjoy maintaining or paying someone else to maintain. Everybody looks bad if you get inspired to install, get worn out putting it all in, and then fail to maintain it.
It's Xeriscape, not Zeroscape. It doesn't mean gravel and a few cactus. Somebody went to Phoenix where they have gravel yards and thought they could do the same here. Think about it: you could buy a vacant lot in Pheonix, pay the taxes and never hear from anyone for ten years. Here you would be fined over any 8 month period for not mowing it.
There is annual color and perennial color. Mixing the two is a good plan. Annuals give more consistant color but don't come back. Perennials come back for years but need pruning and thinning to look good. The best way to choose color is to come by and see what we have. We'll talk you through it because we know what sun exposure, etc. is required for each plant.
Water Gardening usually means ponds, but in West Texas just the sound of water seems to cool us off. If you can't dig a hole maybe you'd like a concrete statuary fountain. We've got a wide selection and can special order from the main manufactuers. Our hardy water lilies will be here in Late April!

I spoke with Annie on the phone regarding a customer of mine that was looking for something that we could not find. Not only did she have what we needed- but was very nice but very accommodating. I would definitely recommend Olive's nursery - I'm sad I don't live closer- they look like a place I'd love to shop!

Called to ask about soil testing and was lectured like I was a five year old. Guy puts on a good act like he's a nice fellow on the ads he puts out, but is rude as can be. Sure miss M&R nursery.

I bought several big beautiful golden pothos in April of this year while visiting my brother(he bought one as well). For mature plants the prices were very reasonable. So much so that I had to stop by again when I visited this month. I didn't get anything this time but it'll be someplace I visit every time I'm in town.

My husband and I were visiting and decided to stop by and check this nursery out. We were acknowledged by pretty much all staff there and everyone was very nice. Definitely happy with our new plant babies.

Still 5 stars! Updating to add a photo of my pothos. Small but going strong! I followed their watering instructions and my little pothos is thriving!

This is first time that me and my daughter have been here. It has multitudes of plants for sale and to look at. The inside has additional items that compliment the plant life and your garden and patio in general. The man that helped us was very nice and super friendly. We will definitely be coming here again.

Passed this little shop on my way home the other day and today I decided to stop by. Seriously, SO CUTE. As soon as you walk in the store is filled with tons of plants, ceramic pots, home decor, win chimes, seriously cute cute cute! Plus the staff were eager to answer any questions I had. Relocating from outside of Texas but will definitely be back to get some goodies to fill my home!

This place has the best selection of pottery, gifts, trees, & plants. If you're in to water gardening or ponds, this is the only place to go. Healthy fish and everything you need to care for them with quality products. The family that runs this place makes it truly a wonderful experience to shop here. The owner took the time to teach me how to build my own fountain. If there were a 100 stars to give, that would be my rating.

This place is wonderful. They take the time to answer gardening questions and concerns, and really know quite a bit about gardening here in San Angelo. I would definitely recommend them.

Smaller, but plants, pots, statuary and gift items are well thought out and displayed nicely in this family owned nursery. We enjoyed great service and will stop in again when in San Angelo.
