Stone Bros. & Byrd Stone Brother & Byrd opened its doors in 1910 with the mission to serve the needs of the Durham area's small farmers. Seed, fertilizer and small machinery were sold and often bartered, and credit was extended to provide farmers time to sell their crops before payment was due.

Remembering the old days, at the age of 83 Mr. H. R. Byrd in 1977 said, We sold wagons and buggies, harness, mowing machines, churns, stoves, harrows and a lot of supplies for the garden and farm.We would swap merchandise for corn, wheat and chickens.

One stop shop for all your green needs Unfortunately they had to move because luxury condos matter more than plants Fortunately they haven't missed a beet at the new location 6/5 stars

Great selection of plants and seeds. They have a really cute pantry section with canned goods. Everyone has always been so friendly and helpful!

Prices are too high for the quality of plants they sell, many of the plants had sun burn and had yellow leaves. Low inventory, granted they were in the process of changing stores. I wouldn't go here for indoor plants, I don't know about outdoor plants too much

Can't say I have ever had a bad experience in the dozen or so times I have gone to Stone Brothers & Byrd since moving to Durham. A wide variety of plants (all of which are thriving in my garden), reasonable prices, and welcoming staff. Folks to load your car for you, and sound gardening advice. What stands out the most is the trust they place in customers -- I went in near close, and they had already cashed out, so the owner (I think) let me leave with my items simply asking me to call back the morning after to pay. Truly excellent customer service.

Not garden related, but I had locked myself out of my car not too far from this store and Eugene and lontrel saw I was struggling to get it open and were incredibly kind and helped me open it up. Super helpful, super quick, excellent customer service.

Very community oriented gardening and planting store. Their workers are all very kind and the interesting old knick knacks are a treat to look at.

This place is top notch in everything, but where they really shine is customer service. Every employee I encountered was kind and genuine, but my girl Stacy was the rock star. Stacy helped me more than I ever thought could be possible when I stepped into this establishment for the first time. Not knowing what to expect with my handful of potting questions, she was a natural pro and taught me along the way. Some how she figured out how to teach me to fish while also catching my dinner for me. I can't recommend this store and Stacy enough. I will 100% be back.

Great selection. Decent prices. You will pay a little more then the box stores but the customer service and friendly smiles you get, even from under their masks, make it well worth it.

Extremely knowledgeable and courteous. Excellent source of advice for birding, gardening, and agriculture. I'll add a picture of a dogwood we bought from them a year ago; it handled a lot of abuse during our home construction project and is looking quite beautiful.

Great garden shop with good plant selection. I went looking for some succulents to put on my South facing deck and was able to find a really nice variety. Staff is very friendly and helpful.
